Welcome to San Cassiano, a characterful ski resort nestled in the heart of the stunning Dolomites. With its spectacular mountain scenery, access to world-class ski slopes, vibrant après-ski scene, and exceptional Italian hospitality, San Cassiano is the perfect destination for solo travellers seeking an unforgettable alpine experience.
Fancy taking on the famous Sella Ronda ski circuit? Yes Please!
San Cassiano delivers world-class skiing in the spectacular Alta Badia region of the Italian Dolomites. As a part of the vast Dolomiti Superski area - the largest ski area in the world - San Cassiano offers an unforgettable ski experience with a backdrop of awe-inspiring UNESCO World Heritage mountain views. The unique Dolomite peaks, with their distinctive pale limestone towers and dramatic rock faces, create skiing terrain unlike anywhere else in the Alps.
The Piz Sorega gondola departs directly from the village, giving you immediate access to over 1,200 kilometres of varied skiable terrain across the Dolomiti Superski area. The extensive piste network includes everything from gentle cruising runs to challenging blacks, with impeccably groomed slopes and stunning panoramic views at every turn. The unique geology of the Dolomites means you'll experience varied terrain, from wide-open bowls on the Pralongià High Plateau to more technical descents beneath towering rock faces.
If you're a beginner, a lift pass for the local Alta Badia area will provide you with more than enough slopes to fill your days. This pass provides a gateway to 130km of slopes connecting the areas of San Cassiano, Corvara, Colfosco, La Villa, and Badia. The gentle nursery slopes both at valley level and at the top of the gondola offer an ideal environment for learning and building confidence.
If you're an experienced skier seeking more extensive terrain and the opportunity to venture beyond, the full-area Dolomiti Superski pass offers an amazing 1,200 kilometres of interconnected slopes. Comprising 12 ski resorts, 450 lifts and 30 snow parks, it is the largest ski area in the world. From San Cassiano, this pass gives you convenient access to various renowned skiing routes, including the Sellaronda circuit and the Sella massif.
The Dolomites region offers some excellent off-piste skiing opportunities, including the famous "hidden valley" descents that make this area so special. However, it's important to note that off-piste skiing is prohibited in certain areas of Alta Badia, so caution should be exercised and local guidance sought when venturing off the designated trails. The wider Dolomiti Superski area does provide access to various challenging descents for experienced skiers with appropriate guidance, making this terrain truly unique in the Alps.
One of San Cassiano's most distinctive advantages is its convenient access to the legendary Cortina d'Ampezzo ski area via the Falzarego Pass. A short bus ride from the village takes you to the summit of Passo di Falzarego (2,105m), opening up an entirely different dimension of Dolomites skiing that many visitors to Alta Badia miss entirely.
From the Falzarego summit, the spectacular Lagazuoi cable car whisks you up to 2,778m for breathtaking panoramic views and access to the famous "hidden valley" descent - one of the most scenic off-piste runs in the entire Dolomites. This dramatic descent through a narrow valley surrounded by towering rock walls is an unforgettable experience for intermediate to advanced skiers. The area also provides access to the Cinque Torri (Five Towers) ski area, where unique rock formations create distinctive skiing terrain with a remarkable blend of natural beauty and WWI history.
For adventurous skiers, the Falzarego connection opens the door to Cortina d'Ampezzo itself - host of the 1956 Winter Olympics and venue for the 2026 Games. Cortina offers an additional 120km of pistes with a completely different character from Alta Badia: faster, more varied terrain beneath the iconic peaks of Tofana and Cristallo. Experienced skiers can also tackle the challenging Super 8 circuit from here, an epic tour connecting eight different valleys in a single day. This unique access from San Cassiano means you can experience two distinctly different Dolomites ski areas in one holiday - the gentle cruising of Alta Badia combined with the dramatic descents and Olympic heritage of Cortina.

Located at 1,537 metres above sea level, San Cassiano sits in a spectacular setting between the peaks of the Fanes Group and the Pralongià High Plateau. The village enjoys stunning views of the imposing rock faces of La Varella, Piz Conturines and the mighty Lagazuoi - some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the entire Dolomites range.
After a day exploring the slopes, San Cassiano comes alive with its vibrant après-ski scene. The village has several popular bars perfect for socialising over a relaxing drink, including Rifugio Las Vegas Lodge at the top of the Piz Sorega lift - a chic, modern bar with stunning mountain views. The village is known for its exceptionally high standard of accommodation and dining, with three Michelin-starred restaurants including the renowned two-star Hubertus at Hotel Rosa Alpina. This gastronomic excellence makes San Cassiano an ideal destination for food-loving skiers who appreciate both world-class skiing and exceptional dining.
The area is steeped in rich history and culture. History enthusiasts can explore the fascinating WWI sites at nearby Mt. Lagazuoi, including the restored mine tunnel from 1917 - one of the most dramatic battle zones of the Mountain Warfare 1915-1918. This 1km tunnel, blown up during the Great War, offers a sobering glimpse into the past. The Museum Ladin - Ursus ladinicus in the village celebrates the region's unique Ladin culture and prehistoric heritage, while the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park provides access to spectacular winter landscapes and the legends that make this corner of the Dolomites so special.
