Tips For Single Parents On Ski Holidays

Check out these useful tips for taking your child on a ski holiday alone.

1: Say hello! - Children have no problem making new friends on holidays, its a little more difficult for adults but start by saying hello, you never know who you will meet in a ski resort!

2: Head out early. Taking your child on a busy slope can be daunting but they are pretty much empty first thing in the morning, get there then and you and your children can enjoy empty pistes and you can relax!

3: Get a harness: It can be difficult to keep your toddler close while skiing, it may look funny but a harness with a long lead can be a lifesaver when they are first learning to ski!

4: Have an emergency plan. It can be a simple as giving them a card with your contact and chalet details on it. Or perhaps giving them a phone you can track or setting a pre arranged emergency meeting point. The important thing is that there is a plan.

5: Take your child skiing with you. They will learn plenty in ski school but there is no substitute for the real pistes. Bring you young child for a run or two on some nice open blues and watch their confidence and skill grow!

6: Bring your swim-wear! Most of the bigger or family orientated resorts now have indoor swimming pools which can be a great break from a day on the slopes. Also: Hot tubs!

7: Leave your travel company do the hard work. Most ski companies will take care of arranging all the extras (lift pass, ski hire, lessons, transfers, childcare) for you. They will do this at the same price you would pay for if you did it yourself but they take on all the hassle. Winner!

8: Take time for yourself. Most resorts have excellent accredited child care facilities which means you can get off on our own or with adult company for a few hours.

A typical day with The Ski Gathering

Morning

As with any shared chalet, all guests enjoy breakfast around the same time. Your lift pass have been delivered to the chalet so, whenever you're ready, just head for the slopes. World-class skiing awaits...

On the Slopes

The choice is yours: ski with the group or do your own thing. Some like to form small groups of similar experience levels or interests; others like to strike out on an adventure of their own. It's completely up to you.

Evening & Dinner

Join the others for aprés ski in the resort centre, or head back to the chalet to get the first slice of the afternoon cake. We'll all have dinner together (six nights). Grab a drink with the rest of the gang, or hit the hay ready for a big day tomorrow.
